Example pictures of harmful insects or insect damage

Insect control should be based on correct identification and by incorporating integrated pest management (IPM) practices. Insects can feed on or damage plants by eating the leaves, sucking the internal fluids of foliage, or boring through the bark damaging the tree internally. Below are some examples of insect damage that we have encountered:

Aphids on ash
Borers in honeylocust
Pitch moth on pine
Turpentine beetle
Western Cherry Fruit Fly
Scale on Sycamore
Sawdust from borers
Woolly adelgid on beech
Pine scale
Woolly aphids on oak
Borers in aspen
Snail/slug damage on hostas
Bark beetle on spruce
Die off starting on top caused by bark beetles
